The Hurley Appalachian Experience June 13 - 18, 2010
Forty-eight volunteers from the local Catholic Churches spent a week building porches, decks & ramps. A new roof was put on a home and dry wall hung. We had a great fun preparing & sharing meals, playing volleyball and socializing at the Center in the evenings. A highlight for the group was the outdoor mass celebrated by all and led by Fr. Jim Gallagher. We appreciated the camaraderie with the folks in Hurley. We helped retired coal mine workers, a family of five building a home on their own, and people who were sick and not able to help themselves. They all appreciated our efforts, but we received much more in return working with these fine people! Another highlight of experiencing the Appalachian culture was listening to live bluegrass music in the local park pavilion. Please consider joining us next year for the Hurley Experience!
