O sacred banquet, in which Christ is
received, the memory of the Passion is
recalled, the soul is filled with grace, and
a pledge of future life is given to us.

Sacramental Life
The whole liturgical life of the Church revolves around the Eucharistic sacrifice and the sacraments. There are seven sacraments in the Church: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Marriage. (CCC (Catechism of the Catholic Church), paragraph 1113)

| The Sacraments of Initiation
|
We the faithful are born anew by the sacrament of Baptism -- the basis of the whole Christian life. Baptism is the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. We are strengthened by the sacrament of Confirmation, and we receive in the Eucharist the food of eternal life. By means of these sacraments of Christian initiation, we receive the treasures of divine life and grow towards the perfection of love. (CCC, paragraphs 1212, 1213)
Baptism: Baptism of children takes place 3 times throughout the year. Baptism of adults and youth ordinarily takes place Holy Saturday night. Address any questions to Chris Allen, 237-8852.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA): Anyone interested in becoming Catholic, please call Fr. Mooney, 237-8850. A new group forms each Spring. RCIA candidates will be joined by their sponsors and the team members in small group meetings.
All interested in joining the Roman Catholic Church, please submit an RCIA request form.
First Communion and First Reconciliation for Baptized Children of Catechetical Age:
Those baptized children who are already regular participants at Sunday Mass may begin proximate preparation for these sacraments when they have entered the 2nd grade. Children who are brought to eat and drink at the Eucharistic table continue the process of initiation that began at their baptism. Parents or guardians will attend regular gatherings and two retreats with their child.
To enroll your child in preparation for the Sacrament of Eucharist, please fill out a Sacrament Request Form
Confirmation: Confirmation of youth occurs between the ages of 16 and 17 in the Spring. A young person begins this formation process if they have taken part in the regular parish or school religious education program for a year, and has participated regularly at Sunday mass. Preparation for Confirmation is a two year process, beginning at age 15 or 16. Confirmation candidates will participate in Generations of Faith as well as attend two retreats during the year with confirmands from other parishes participating in the confirmation ceremony. The sponsors will attend the monthly Generations of Faith sessions with their confirmands during the year.

| The Sacraments of Healing
|
We carry this new life in earthen vessels. The Lord Jesus Christ, physician of our souls and bodies, forgave the sins of the paralytic and restored him to bodily health. (Mark 2:1-12) Christ has willed that his Church continue, in the power of the Holy Spirit, his work of healing and salvation, even among her own members. This is the purpose of the sacraments of healing -- Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick. (CCC, paragraphs 1420, 1421)
Act of Contrition O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you. I detest all my sins, because of your just punishments, but most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen. |
Anointing of the Sick: Please call 237-5911 or 237-8850 and let us know if a member of your household is ill or planning surgery.

| The Sacraments at the Service of Communion
|
The two other sacraments, Holy Orders and Marriage, are directed towards the salvation of others; if they also contribute to personal salvation, it is through service to others that they do so. These sacraments confer a particular mission in the Church and serve to build up the People of God. Those who receive the sacrament of Holy Orders are consecrated in Christs name to feed the Church by the word and grace of God. Christian spouses are fortified and consecrated for the duties and dignity of marital life by the Sacrament of Marriage. (CCC, paragraphs 1534, 1535)
Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, love is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing, but rejoices over the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. 1 Cor 13:4-7 |
Marriage: Marriage ordinarily takes place in the parish of the bride. To plan a sacramental marriage, please contact your pastor to discuss the life and responsibilities of this vocation well before you set a date or make other plans. A sacrament request form is available; the pastor will call you for an appointment.

Holy Orders: A person discerning the vocation to priesthood or religious life as a diocesan priest, religious priest or brother, or religious sister can contact their pastor for guidance and direction.
